Internal Finishes

QUINN lite Thermal Blocks can be plastered using a 1:1:6 cement:lime:sand. The following procedure should be followed.

  1. Dampen blockwork with a fine water spray to reduce suction.
  2. Apply scud coat 1:2 sand/cement with waterproofer. Alternatively a proprietary bonding agent maybe used, e.g. Evobond, Unibond, or PVA bond by Larsen Building Products.
  3. (3) Scratch coat 1:6 sand/cement to a depth of 8-12mm.

Plastering should conform to BS 5492 1991 code of practice for internal plastering. A medium grain sized sand is ideal.

A premixed gypsum bound lightweight undercoat plaster may also be used.

Alternatively blocks can be drylined. Plasterboard can by fixed to Quinn-Lite blocks using either plaster dabs or timber battens. It is a requirement of the Building Regulations that gaps be sealed between dry lining and masonry walls at the edges of openings, such as windows and doors, and at the junctions of walls, floors and ceilings. One method is to seal with continuous bands of fixing plaster.
